TOWN FULL OF DARK AND STORMY NIGHTS – The viral phenomenon of “girl dinner” – meals typically consisting of randomly assembled portions of food – has coincided with a rise in cannibals with poor media literacy. An anonymous TikTok account by the name of cannibal4coquette has led the movement. Her most notable video, Trying the girl dinner challenge, features her chasing a girl in her mid-20s with a knife, marinara sauce, and a single hashbrown from Trader Joe’s.
“I feel like the cannibal community at large is in dire need of the female, Gen-Z perspective. Many of the most famous cannibals in history are men. I want to change that but I also don’t want to get arrested,” admitted cannibal4coquette in a highly modulated voice after being asked why she not only filmed herself committing a crime but also posted it on the Internet. While she may have built her brand by filming herself eating others, her TikTok content strategy has diversified its user base beyond the restrictive indie cannibalism niche. She keeps up with other social media trends by pairing soap-cutting videos with people speaking about serious geopolitical issues, narrating Reddit posts over Minecraft gameplays, and asking people to choose between gay rights or Gillian Anderson.
At press time, TikTok has investigated her account and removed the soap-cutting video for violating community guidelines.
