BERKELEY, Calif. – As the Berkeley student body settles into their new classes for the Fall semester, it’s no surprise to most that some professors have already begun assigning homework. However, Haas School of Business students have expressed concern over a workload that many are calling “unthinkable” for the first week of classes.
Students in the highest enrolled undergraduate course under Haas– Introduction to Business Economics– were shocked to receive their first take-home assignments of the year Thursday afternoon. The homework included up to four full 8.5 x 11 inch coloring sheets, one of which contained an “about me” section where students were expected to write about their hobbies and interests.
“I’m used to a heavy courseload, but this is a lot for the first week. Obviously I’m going to try my best to get it all done, but I’m stressed about how long this will take me,” stated third year James Randolf. “We shouldn’t have to worry about that this early.”
The classes’ professor, Mr. Gavin Bisnuz, understands the concern– but he’s adamant about the way his course runs.
“I know it’s a decent amount of work, but these kids should know what they signed up for,” remarked- “This is the Haas school of business, the best undergraduate business school in the country.”
At press time, a student was overheard telling their peer they couldn’t go out that night, “because I just have too much fucking coloring.”
